Parent engagement is one piece of the puzzle when it comes to maintaining a vibrant school community, according to Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School Fairfield’s new principal Jackie Vella.
To celebrate Catholic Schools Week, the school held a parent workshop on 5 March where parents completed Maths puzzles to experience firsthand the problem-solving skills their children learn at school.
Ms Vella is the former principal of St Therese Catholic Primary Padstow and took on the role at Our Lady of the Rosary this year.
I appreciate the wonderful support given to our school by the parent community.
As a leader, Ms Vella has a strong focus on curriculum and loves working in the classrooms alongside the teachers and students, helping them to achieve their best. She has a keen interest in Mathematics and Gifted Education and hopes to share her experiences in these two areas with the school community.
Ms Vella said she had enjoyed meeting many of the parents from OLR, and seeing the curriculum come alive for them. “The education of the children is a partnership between the school and the parents and I appreciate the wonderful support given to our school by the parent community,” she said.
The sentiment was returned by parents including Dimitri and Fiona Papaikonomou, whose daughter started school at OLR this term.
“It was so much fun and took me back to school,” Mrs Papaikonomou said of the workshop.
