Peter Watkins, Principal at St Charles Primary School Ryde and Warren Loy, Principal at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Primary School Mount Pritchard were awarded the John Laing Award by NSW Education Minister Rob Stokes.
The John Laing Award recognises principals who influence not only students, but staff in achieving their best and aspiring to leadership.
The role of the principal is a privilege and a wonderful challenge
During the ceremony, the Minister acknowledged that the leadership of a school was critical to ensuring quality educational outcomes.
Mr Watkins and Mr Loy were both nominated for their development of staff leadership capacity and chosen as winners by Principals Australia Institute (PAI) and the Australian Primary Principals Association (APPA).
“The role of the principal is an honour, a privilege and a wonderful challenge,” Mr Loy said.
“As a leader it requires a commitment to lifelong learning and to work collectively for the growth of teachers and students alike.”
I feel truly honoured to be receiving this award
“I feel truly honoured to be receiving this award,” agreed Mr Watkins. “You can’t receive an award such as this without backing, buy in and desire to want to improve yourself and the students.”
“I feel blessed to say that every child, parent, parish priest, leader of learning and particularly the wonderful staff truly work in partnership to make a difference for each other and for our children.”
