The Year 4 student recently took first place in shot put, discus, long jump and the 100m sprint at the Inner West Athletics Competition, and will progress to the MacKillop trials in September.
Nathan was born with tibial hemimelia, a congenital condition in which tibula bones are absent from the knee down. His legs were amputated when he was young – but his mother and teachers say he never lets his condition get in the way and will “give anything a go.”
As well as excelling in athletics, Nathan plays soccer and swims – but one field event is his favourite.
“I like discus best, because I made it to state for that,” Nathan said.
“I threw 7.05m at school and for state Little Athletics I came second and threw 8.83.”
