The Archbishop’s Awards for Student Excellence have acknowledged 49 exceptional Year 12 students from Sydney Catholic secondary schools for their contribution to their schools and communities.

Archbishop of Sydney Anthony Fisher presented each student with a certificate and medallion at the ceremony, held at St Mary’s Cathedral College Sydney and followed by a prayer service at the Cathedral on Thursday, September 8.

Now in its 17th year, the prestigious award acknowledges students’ achievements and contribution to school life in areas including leadership, academic and sporting life, social justice, Parish life and faith, and community service. The award also recognises the personal qualities of each student with a citation prepared by the student’s school principal and read at the ceremony attended by family, school staff and peers.

Executive Director of Sydney Catholic Schools, Dr Dan White, said the awards were a wonderful tribute to the students, their families and their schools.

“The 2016 Archbishop’s Awards recipients epitomise the qualities we hope for in all graduates of Sydney Catholic schools: compassion, integrity, faith, leadership, a generous spirit and commitment to serving others. We commend them for their achievements and the positive impact they have on their communities.”
