Southern Cross Catholic Vocational College Burwood students have taken the lead in organising their school’s Christmas hamper drive, collecting enough food, books and toys to make Christmas festive for more than 20 local families in need.
The Year 12 students, who are studying a Certificate 3 in Tourism, Travel and Events at the College encouraged all students and staff at SCCVC to contribute to the hampers. They also wrapped the baskets. The hampers and toys will be distributed by St Vincent de Paul next week.
Principal Patrick O’Reilly said it was the first year students had organised the drive. “They have used the skills learnt in their VET course to organise all aspects of the charity appeal from asking for donations, to wrapping the baskets and organising the concert at which the baskets will be presented to St Vincent de Paul,” he said. “I am also proud of the compassion and thoughtfulness that students have demonstrated for families in need this Christmas.”
The Southern Cross Catholic Vocational College Christmas concert will be held on Tuesday, December 8 at 10am. The hampers will be presented to St Vincent De Paul Marrickville representative Long Nguyen at the event.
