De La Salle College Cronulla students have raised more than $2,500 for the Vinnies annual Christmas Appeal, keeping in touch with the true spirit of Christmas. The money will help to make Christmas brighter for families around Cronulla who are doing it tough.
“It may come as a surprise to many people who think Cronulla is very affluent, but there are families really struggling here,” said John O’Neill of Cronulla’s St Vincent De Paul Society store.
College Captain Liam Maccan said the students’ plan included movie and grocery vouchers, so that families could have a trip to the movies and a good spread for Christmas lunch.
Co-captain Shannon Hathier said the project had evolved to become a community effort. “Local businesses like Sea Level restaurant really came to the party donating raffle prizes, and Cronulla Cinema helped us out with the movie vouchers,” she said.
