A group of students committed to caring for the environment has been invited to tea at the Mayor’s office.
The Green Group Environmental Team at McAuley Catholic Primary School Rose Bay and their Principal Mrs Gerardine Guilhaus were invited to join Woollahra Council Mayor, Toni Zeltzer, for afternoon tea at her Council Chambers to acknowledge their commitment to the environment.
The invitation came after Ms Zeltzer visited the school earlier in May and praised the efforts of both staff and students to hold Rubbish Free Lunches.
“We were thrilled to be invited by Mayor Zeltzer to visit her in the Council Chambers,” said Mrs Guilhaus. “It highlighted the important commitment we have towards the environment.”
During afternoon tea the students were treated to a tour of the council and had the chance to discuss artworks displayed on the walls. The mayor also talked to the students about the importance of caring for the environment and encouraged them to continue planting trees.
McAuley Catholic Primary School has had a six year commitment to the environment. This has included introducing initiatives such as ‘Ditching the Wrap’ and supporting national and global environmental causes like Earth Hour, Keep Australia Beautiful Week and National Tree Day.
