The boys of St Mary’s Cathedral Choir have been mixing with some of music’s greats after being asked to sing with contestant Nicholas Duquemin on Australia’s The Voice.
The choir of students from Years 3 to 12 at St Mary’s Cathedral College, were due to perform as backing on The Voice’s second live show at Fox Studios.
“The boys were very, very excited about the opportunity,” said Hannah Burt, Music Administrator for St Mary’s Cathedral.
“It was a valuable experience of how showbiz works and all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, between the dancers, musicians and producers.”
On the day, the boys were lined up backstage ready to go on; when live voting decided that Nicholas Duquemin wouldn’t progress through to the next round. The boys still watched the show and met celebrity coaches Delta Goodrem, Jessie J and Ricky Martin, as well as the other The Voice contestants.
“The celebrity coaches were great, Jessie J in particular, she joked around with the boys and high-fived them which was a real highlight,” said Ms Burt.
Preparing for the performance involved a week of intense rehearsals, ending with a recording practice at Fox Studios before the live show aired.
In addition, the boy’s continued their normal rehearsals, which includes four morning and three afternoon practices per week.
