Reading to help those who can’t

Good Samaritan Catholic College Hinchinbrook has filled their library with avid readers raising funds for world literacy.

Students have been sponsored per page or by a single donation in a readathon raising funds for “Room to Read”, which supports literacy programs for children in Africa and Asia and helps girls in the developing world finish school.

_CE14955 Librarian Greg Lozelle said many of the readers are the school’s Book Club members.

One student raised $170 before the readathon began.

As well as supporting others, Mr Lozelle said there are a lot of students with English as  a second language.

“We’re hoping to get more students passionate about reading,” he said.
