Grandmothers support their readers

For the past nine years, two grandmothers have visited St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Primary Hurstville every week to help the young children learn to read.

Daphne Gray and Janette de Vine started listening to the students’ reading when they each had a granddaughter in Kindergarten, they’ve been doing it every Tuesday since.

“I love mixing with the children and helping them read,” said Mrs Gray, whose grandchildren have now left the school.

Mrs de Vine still has two granddaughters at the school, Madison in Year 6 and Daisy in Kindergarten.

Mrs. Gray, Jean talks how you help him with the reading. As a busy mum I just want to say a big thank you for being part of he’s learning. I appreciate a lot. Deborah.
