De La Salle students’ art brings smiles

De La Salle College captain Danny Wade collects an inaugural art prize from designer Joe Snell, Archibald Prize finalist Alexander Mackenzie, and Dr. Angie Lang.

De La Salle College Cronulla captain, Danny Wade has won an inaugural art competition with a wellbeing theme.

Cronulla dentist and art collector Dr Angie Lang began the $4,000 art prize to promote a positive view on life and wellbeing among teenagers enrolled in local high schools.

Student artists came up with a range of positive images that made Dr Lang and prize judges, artist Alexander Mackenzie and Channel Seven House Rules design guru Joe Snell, smile.

Dr Lang said Danny’s entry – a portrait of an old lady with eyes creased with humour – prompted viewers to feel they couldn’t help smiling back at her.

De La Salle students Brittany Livingstone and Oscar Fish also received commendations from the judges for high quality painting and conceptual strength.

Danny thanked the prize sponsor Love Your Smile Dental Surgery for the opportunity it provided and said he had enjoyed creating the work.
